Sunday the 1st of July – 2:00pm – Adult Open Day!

This Sunday, the 1st of July, Enfield Lawn Tennis Club will be holding their world famous (sort of) adult open day. If you’ve ever wanted to give the game of tennis a try then there’s no better time.

It’s a great opportunity to have a knock with some existing members, to have a look around our club and to try out our brand new courts.

They’re only a couple of months old and you won’t find any better quality courts this summer in Enfield!

So pop down on Sunday, meet the people behind ELTC, have a knock, a couple of drinks, whatever you like, it’s your day. You can spend as long or as short as you like here!

Look forward to seeing you!

A typical British Jubilee

It was a quintessentially British afternoon on Tuesday, complete with overcast skies and rain, as our members gathered for ELTC’s Jubilee tennis tournament and auction.

The tennis kicked off around half past two with all six courts in action and a total of 26 players competing for the title of jubilee tennis tournament champion.

After five gruelling rounds, the winner, winning a stonking 33 games of a possible 45, was Allen Clarke!

While the barbeque continued inside dodging the rain, the auction kicked off.

There were a vast array of lots on offer, ranging from cakes and holidays in the Alps.

As the bidding continued and the lots continued to sell, ELTC managed to raise well over £1,000 for the club!

The generosity in support of our club was plain for all to see with people even outbidding themselves to raise that little bit more!

Thank you to everyone who came on Tuesday, the atmosphere was fantastic despite the rain! It was great to see so many faces and so much money raised for the club.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Jubilee celebration tennis and auction at Enfield LTC

It’s almost Tuesday, which means Enfield LTC’s Jubilee tennis tournament and auction is almost here!

If it’s anything like Turbo Tennis from the weekend it’ll be a great occasion with Pimms a plenty and much more behind the bar I’m sure!

There will be plenty of tennis to sink your teeth into in the afternoon before the Jubilee auction commences!

There are so many lots up for auction, with a great range on offer too! You can read the full list here.

Looking forward to seeing as many of you there as possible. Thank you for your continued support of our club.

Turbo tennis! New courts, lots of sun and quick tennis

There was a grand turnout for the annual turbo tennis tournament as the sun beamed down on the lush new courts!

Thanks for all those who turned up raising money for the club! Every little helped, the bar takings were especially good. Read into that what you will!

The winners! Congratulations to Jon and Imogen who took the mens and womens trophies respectively!

Thank you to Michael Keown for arranging the day!

Check out some of the photos:

Let’s play tennis quickly and with funny rules. Otherwise known as ‘Turbo Tennis’!

Yes, that’s right, it’s that time of year already. So dust off your garishly coloured tennis equipment and clothes and take to the courts for turbo tennis.

It’ll also be the ‘grand’ opening of our brand new courts!

There are of course some slight rule adjustments to give it that ‘turbo’ edge:

  • Doubles pairs are picked at random at the start of the day.
  • Matches are timed and finish when the time is up.
  • Let calls are abandoned so if a serve clips the net and bobbles into the service box, it’s an ace!
  • Deuces are ‘sudden death deuces’. The returning pair get to choose which of them gets to return the serve. The winner of that one point wins.
  • The player with the most games won at the end of the day wins the coveted trophy.

Although it’s not compulsory, bright tennis clothing is eagerly encouraged!

Entry is only £4 with a buffet included, with all profits going towards the club, so come and get involved. You’ve gotta be in it to win it!

We’ve had a queen for 60 years! Let us play tennis, auction fun stuff and drink.

Yes, the Queen has been on the throne for 60 years. A lot has happened in that time. Man has stepped foot on the moon, 3D telly has come, gone, and come back again. And Tottenham Hotspur won the double in 1961.

But NOTHING will compare to the action that will be on display at ELTC on the 5th of June.

As well as all the tennis and drinks, we will be having an auction! But it’s not your normal auction, people will be auctioning anything they like, from cakes to sat navs, Arsenal (boo) tickets to rounds of golf at local courses and even a week away skiing in Courchevel in south-east France.

  • 2  tickets for an Arsenal Carling Cup match
  • 4 hours of personal gardening
  • Hand car wash on the day
  • 4 hours ironing
  • SatNav for the car
  • Two of Pat Ryland’s world famous desserts
  • 2 evenings babysitting
  • A hair restyling session
  • A round of golf at Hadley Wood
  • A Christening or Christmas cake
  • A birthday cake
  • A round of golf at Moor Park
  • London airport taxi service
  • And the week’s accommodation for up to 6 in Courchevel 1550
Fore more information, read the original post here. We hope to see all of you there!

[PHOTOS] The court painting has begun

Bonjour!

The rain has stopped, at last, and today the first coat of paint went on the new courts.

It’s safe to say they look fantastic, and by the time they’ll all be completed, we’ll have some fantastic new surfaces to apply our trade! … Of sorts.

Here are some pictures from today, when the sun’s out the look brilliant.

Celebrate the Diamond Jubilee at ELTC

On Tuesday the 5th of June, Enfield LTC will be having a special Diamond Jubilee fun tournament and auction.

Get your name down on the sign-up sheers in the clubhouse or alternatively drop Trish Parker or Caroline Liversidge and email to let them know you’ll be there.

If you’re not in the mood for playing, there’ll be plenty to keep you occupied, including the Pimms and beer tent. Try not to run it too dry!

Then comes the auction, however this is no ordinary auction … There are no antiques or memorabilia. It will be members who are putting their own products under the hammer, or in some instances, themselves. Already on offer is:

  • A hand car wash.
  • A booze laden Christmas cake.
  • A week away in a French ski resort!

The more auction lots the merrier and it’s not too late to see your offer go under the hammer, as small or large as it may be. All proceeds go to the club so be as imaginative and creative as you like.

It promises to be a great day so bring as many friends and family along as you like. It will be great to see as many of you there as possible.
