February Club Update

The year has started well with the AGM, fun tournament, prize giving and club matches already having happened. A new committee has been elected and we are hoping to grow membership this year. Part of that involves making sure all members are aware of what has happened recently and what is coming up.

What has happened in the last month

The fun tournament and AGM were held on January 21st with 4 courts in action and many staying for the AGM.

Trophies were awarded to our club tournament winners for both the Junior and Adult section – see pictures on the website.

Club matches continue to be played, despite some of the weather, and we have seen victories for our Women’s and Men’s 2s team, leaving the Men’s 2s pushing for promotion.

Our Mixed and Men’s 1s didn’t fare quite so well.

Things happening in the next month or two

The next fun tournament is scheduled for Sunday 25th February. Why not come along and meet others from the club.

Jim and Karen are running a Quiz Night and Fish and Chip supper on Friday March 16th. Look out for the sign up sheet in the clubhouse. £20 for entry and the traditional fish and chips.

Look out for the membership renewal email from Colin and the early sign up discount. And £99 for new mebers.

The club matches and rota nights continue. New rota price of £5 due to the increases in Electricity and ball costs.

Wednesday Evening Tournament on April 3rd – after Easter and the clocks go back – make use of the extra daylight with this fun tournament.

Opportunities to get involved with the club

We are always looking for people to get involved in helping running events and the club. If you have an idea on something fun to do together as a club then let us know.In particular we are looking for someone to help with the Welfare and Safeguarding in the club. Making sure we have a safe environment for our Juniors especially to play in. Please contact us if you are interested in contributing more to the club.

Highlight of 2023

ELTC FINALS DAY

The Club Finals Day was, this year, held on the Saturday 8th July. We started early at 10.30 with the Men’s Doubles as we had a lot of matches to get through, and wanted to avoid the rain! Our priority was to see our star players early in the day, when they were fresh and eager! As suspected, we were not disappointed!

Jon Warnes and Miles Liversidge, who was playing his first ever senior tournament,  took on Jon Yelland and Oliver Bunyan. It was a blistering match, despite the rain beginning to spit. The spectators saw a great game played in good spirits. The players displaying some superb tennis and interesting tactics! Yelland and Bunyan eventually took the cup, but it was hard fought match and a pleasure to watch.

The Men’s Singles saw an epic match. Nicky Kirk played Jon Warnes. As you can imagine, the footwork and the shots were speedy and decisive. They certainly used all of the court! Nicky Kirk played so well and there were loads of thrills and spills. And plenty of rain! The guys wanted to fight through this, and the balls had be changed to accommodate them. Unfortunately, even Nicky couldn’t break the Jon Warnes consistent run on this trophy.

The Mixed Doubles was equally exciting. Oliver Bunyan and Lindsay Cameron took on and Caroline and Miles Liversidge.  Congratulations to Miles. To reach two Finals in the Club Tournament the first time you are eligible is such an achievement. But the cup wasn’t to be. The Lindsay and Oliver combo took the crown, again!

The Ladies Singles Competition was played in a different format this year, ELTC as experimental as ever! The feedback on the process was that it was a very enjoyable experience. With three Finalists playing each other in a Round Robin.  Here they are Imogen, Caroline and Lindsay after they played. And the winner was Lindsay Cameron.

Despite the rain it was a great day socially, with players and spectators enjoying a great BBQ afterwards, whilst the kids played football on the lawn, all in true ELTC style.

Welcome to 2024

The New Year often brings a new you and if your resolution is to be more active this year then why not come and try us out.

With 6 courts – 3 refurbished in 2023 – then we have plenty of space for players at all levels and our special introduction membership of £99 makes it quite affordable to join our club.

See you on court soon!

The 2nd Team played Muswell Hill Methodists and won 20-4 & we drew against Winchmore Hill.  The ladies have played one match against Hadley Wood who fielded a strong team. We came second.

Social – 24th June Quiz Night is sold out! As mentioned above the next Fun Tournament is 14th June, a Wednesday @ 7pm. Club Tournament Finals Days are 8th and 9th July. Come along to see our Champs, Pimms is usually on the menu for spectators! Finally, we are repeating music on the lawn session. Nicky & Gemma Kirk will be performing at the Club in September. Finals Day 2022

It was a glorious day. The sun was shining, the spectators topping up their tans. The bar was busy, busy with the need for super cold drinks, and our trojan finalists played on! We started early at 10am to give the players some respite, and there was some superb tennis.

The Men’s Plate was long and hard. These guys played for over two hours and attracted many spectators. Eventually someone had to win, congratulations to both Polydorou and Georgio for some great tennis. Polydorou eventually taking the Plate!

The Ladies Doubles was also a cracker. This year we had two new members in the final. A new, formidable pairing in Sarah and Claudia, playing Caroline and Lindsay. They used all the court! There were some great ‘gets’ and phenomenal volleys. There were frequent shouts of well played and good shot from the audience! Eventually Lindsay and Caroline took the match, but it was so exciting.

The Mixed Doubles also saw some new pairings. With Jack Shepard and Vicky Warnes taking the court to play Oliver Bunyan and Lindsay Cameron. This match again drew an audience with lots of gasps and ooo’s as these four played to the lines. Some superb tennis and good on court communication. Jack and Vicky took the crown on the day, but watch this space. Who knows what might happen next year?

The Men’s Doubles also had new members involved, it was great to see Peter Scollen and Andrew Harris take on Oliver Bunyan and Jack Shepherd. As a newly formed pair they had a formidable task in the heat of the day, but everyone had a good time and excellent shots abounded. Oliver and Jack taking the Cup.

We finished with the Men’s Singles,  the Ladies Singles has been delayed because of the searing heat, and news of this will be posted asap. Jack Shepherd taking to the court a third time that day against the current Champion Jon Warnes. We had a thrilling first set, with Jack leading 4-2, before Jon fought back and took it. Battle Royal ensued and Jon Warnes retained his title.

A great day was had by all. Thanks so much for all the help, especially to the Tournament organiser, Lianne. We really appreciate those who Umpired, helped with the food and cooked the delicious post tournament BBQ.

Tournament & Tunes

A totally enjoyable, laid-back afternoon of tennis on a very pleasant day. The winner of the bottle of bubbles was Colin Woodley. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves having a good competitive game. What a delight having such young well-behaved children running around our lovely space.

And what could be better than rounding off such a fantastic afternoon with our own outdoor gig with the very talented Gemma & Nicky (& Rich on bass) a.k.a. Lost Chimes. We are so fortunate to have such amazing people amongst our community. The rain held off and we sang together. What a great way to celebrate being able to gather again.
